Apply to be a Tētēkura | Student Lead
Our Tētēkura, Student Leads, work as part of the Sustainability Office team to invest their passion for sustainability into designing and creating positive changes on campus.
Throughout the year, our Tētēkura collaboratively design a series of sustainability experiences on campus to support our student community to be better connected to ideas of sustainability and social change.
This mahi includes events, campaigns, initiatives, creating space and idea generation.
We’re on the hunt for passionate, creative, and committed students to join our Tētēkura team in 2027.
Roles for 2027
Sustainable Transport Coordinator – Promote sustainable travel options for staff and students, helping reduce emissions as part of our Net Carbon Zero journey.
Colleges Sustainability Coordinator – Lead student engagement initiatives across halls that bring sustainability to life and encourage māhirahira. You'll coordinate events, build connections across the residential community, and champion waste management and environmental awareness.
Biodiversity & Gardens Coordinator – Help our green spaces thrive. You'll coordinate gardening activities, support biodiversity initiatives, and engage students in hands-on projects that foster kaitiakitanga, wellbeing, and community connection.

We’re looking for Tētēkura across a range of roles:
Te Oraka Store Support Coordinator – Keep Te Oraka thriving. You’ll promote manaakitaka through supporting volunteers and making sure the store is welcoming.
Community & Digital Engagement Coordinator – Create opportunities for students and staff to connect, both online and face-to-face. You'll manage digital engagement (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, podcast), support whakawhanaukataka, and coordinate memorable Social Club events.
Hours
The roles include up to 8 hours of paid mahi – we are flexible about how these hours are done but you will need a level of availability for the year.

Students will be paid the living wage for 2027 per hour.
Requirements
You should be enrolled at the University of Otago or Otago Polytechnic for both semesters in 2027.
Important Information
Training runs from Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027. You must be in Dunedin to attend.
